- June 1996: Orange County Prosecutors Reportedly Began Investigating Whether Baugh’s Illegal Campaign Contributions Were Connected To A Credit Card Fraud Scheme “Orange County prosecutors are looking into possible credit card fraud in connection with their investigation into Assemblyman Scott Baugh. - Search Warrant Affidavits Alleged Baugh Allowed Adel Zeidan, A Convenience Store Owner, To Process $12,510 In Charges On Baugh’s Credit Card As If He Purchased Merchandise, Then Repaid Him Personally. “According to search warrant affidavits, the District Attorney's Office is looking at whether Baugh, R-Huntington Beach, allowed Adel Zeidan to draw money from Baugh's credit cards in June 1995, the Orange County Register reported. Zeidan, the owner of Ocean Pacific Market near Baugh's home, is a contributor whose loan to Baugh's campaign during the Doris Allen recall forms the basis of a misdemeanor charge the freshman assemblyman already faces. According to the affidavit, Zeidan processed six credit card charges totalling $12,510, then paid the bills within two months.” [City News Service, 6/19/96]
