Orange County voters haven’t actually had to vote for a county superintendent in over 20 years, a job that’s traditionally been shrouded behind a veil of bureaucracy amid bigger races on the ballot.
The Orange County Board of Education and Department of Education agreed to separate their legal teams after spending over three million dollars in taxpayer money arguing the issue in court.
Last May, 200 parents came to a meeting of the OC Board of Education to express outrage over a mandate to vaccinate their children in schools without their approval. It was FALSE. But a month later, the Board repeated the misinformation.
Cal State Northridge professor: “Imagine my horror when I found myself facing a group of non-experts and anti-Ethnic Studies panelists” on the Ethnic Studies Panel. The group already had their minds made up based on right-wing politics and extremist views.
After the Orange County Classical Academy failed to meet qualifications required by the Orange Unified Board of Education, OCBOE voted 4-3 in favor of allowing the charter school to open even though it violated district rules stipulated by the California Education Code.
The current Trustees are primarily interested in pushing a political agenda. They are using huge sums of OCDE funds to pursue legal disputes, refusing to operatate within the regulations set out by the state and county, and pushing charter schools over public schools.
In August, the California Supreme Court declined to hear the board’s previous petition seeking to overturn Newsom’s emergency rule-making authorities allowing state officials to issue a mask mandate for K-12 students.
For the second time in a year, a member of the Orange County Board of Education is facing a lawsuit for also holding a local city council seat.
The OC Board of Education incumbent members fought hard against the new redistricting map produced by the state’s independent commission. As a result the final map is hard to find — it isn’t even called out on the Board of Education’s website!
